I have been using Metzeler tyres since the early 90's, I like them.

I whacked a new set of M7RR's on the RS just before a "spirited" 2350 k trip to Phillip Island and back for the World Superbikes, can only say great things about the way they suit the RS and what I need out of a tyre.

BTW, the OEM GPR300's were destroyed in under 4000 k's on mine, in comparison to the M7RR they had no grip and no longevity. Personally I thought they were crap.

What's wrong with them? The rear is squared off even though I ride much of the time leaned over on mountain roads, and they need replacement after about 5500 miles. I'm pushing them past the TWIs to get 6k miles out of them just on principal. There's NO reason a street sport tire should get that kind of mileage.

I am happy if a ST tyre gives me anything over 6000km's (not miles) and that is usually an ask if you are using them for what they are meant for.

What tires are you referring to? I'll make sure I avoid those brands and models.

Pirelli Angel GT's, Michelin Road 2's, Bridgestone etc, etc, etc, I don't remember getting more than about 6500km's out of any tyre, & I am a stickler for tyre pressures.

It really depends on what the bikes are being used for. I had the same tyres on my ZRX and Z1000. One was used only for Sunday rides and the other a mix of Sunday rides and normal city riding and commuting.

On the Sunday only bike the tyres were toasted in 4500k's, on the other they lasted to about 7500. Interestingly the bike that had the tyres last longer also had 35 more HP, so it is more a matter of usage type rather than the HP of the bike they are fitted too.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I have always used my bike mainly for riding windy mountain roads so I would expect slightly differing mileage if I rode more sedately, and your description sounds about right Phil, but there may have been less difference if you had the same tyre on two of the same bikes. I still don't understand how riders manage to get 10,000km's out of the same tyres I am using ? Surely the middle of the tyre would wear flat regardless of how sedately you were riding ? Baffles me.
