I just got my first service done by Bournemouth Kawasaki. Very happy with the service got the front sprocket changed to a bigger one. Cost me only £122. Oil used is Silkolene semi synthetic 10/40. Next service may consider using fully synthetic  oil.

My owners manual says 4.4 quarts with filter near the beginning of the manual, then says 4.0 qts with filter towards the back.

4.4 is initial / factory fill up dry. 4 is afterwards.  There is always residual oil left.

We're lucky in the uk. First service is free but doesnt stipulate an oil change however if you fill in a survey you get a free filter only oil to pay for. Keeps you at the dealer!

First service is definitely an oil change .
The “running in oil” is mineral. This is changed to semi synthetic at the first service

No it ain't, and it does include an oil change. If your dealer says it's free, then that is something they're offering themselves, most dealers charge for first service.

Checked the book, YES DEFINITELY HAVE TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE=states it quite clearly. With Chris Walker he said first service is free-and that is a Kawasaki thing; however if others in the UK don't get this it would seem it's just more of the same-superb customer service by CW! (I got free delivery of my bike 'cos it was raining!!!!).
HOWEVER he gave me  a KAwasaki uk leaflet-you fill in a customer service rating about your sales service and they sent me a voucher for a free oil filter-same voucher then has a link so that you do the same ie customer satisfaction survey about the 600 mile service, and they send you a voucher for a free oil filter for the first year service! So far so impressed.

I did think that Chris said that the oil change on first service was optional but think that he must have said it is the only thing payable and that type of oil would be optional-will be opting for motul 7100 if he does it!

Sorry folks, should read the handbook!!!!
