Already been mentioned and it has nothing to do with chain tension.  i am meticulous with the chain & have varied it numerous ways and it makes no difference to the clunk.

Went for a 100+ mile ride yesterday and have decided my gearbox is just gonna always shift this way and to just live with it. After 2 thousand miles and 2 oil changes nothing has changed and I am just going to make allowances, relax and enjoy the ride. Still a great bike nonetheless. Moving on to other problems, HEY, you kids, get off my lawn! :008:

Is it an audible clunk from 5th to 6th or the gearbox in general ?

I've also got the same clunking. Definitely guaranteed between 5th and 6th and the opposite too. But is also there changing from other gears, the difference is the from 1st to 5th the cluncking is not always there depending on how I ride (I mean more aggressive fast shifting not always produces the clunking or easy and gentle low rpms also kind of helps avoid the clunk).

I also find it annoying.... so it would be really great if there is permanent solution... In any case is somewhat a relieve to know I am not the only one... I started to believe that I was mistreating my gearbox because of my inexperience... (still an option though...)

Little info, my z900rs version 2018 has already 5000 km... the clunk's still there since day 1

Your bike sounds like it is similar to mine, I always get the audible clunk from 5th to 6th gear and mine often clunks 1st to 2nd, but as you said, it depends on how you ride, whereas 5th to 6th never changes.

I have the same pattern.

It's not such a loud audible clunk it's more like I can feel it with my foot
