But get it done when? I dont think there would be any disservice to the bike to follow the 42000 km timeline if that is good for the majority of the Zrs's right? I want my bike to be as good as possible for as long as possible but I dont want to do something prematurely just for the sake of doing it.

I can confirm that the service interval for Oz is 42,000 km. Same as my GTR.

My bike is low Kilometers compared to some of the numbers here, but I will check the valve clearence this winter. We have a short riding season so l have lots of time to tinker.
The cams only need to come out if you need to make an adjustment but I am going to buy a shim kit just in case.

I do not know anything about this.  A mechanic I trust told me the cams need to come out to check the valve clearances.  He said taking out the cams is not a big deal to him and they don't have to be degreed to reinstall.

You need to check the clearance between the cam lobe and the follower, so cams have to be in place to check correctly. And if the cams are removed, they need to be reinstalled in the correct position according to the timing marks.

don't trust your mechanic because its impossible to check clearances with the cams out .... the valve timing has to be set correctly to reinstall the cams ....
