Brake and clutch levers, ? same as regular Z900
on: February 10, 2020, 03:19:06 AM
For those interested, I just saw that the part numbers for the Z900RS clutch and brake levers are the same as for the regular Z900. That makes it a little easier to shop for replacements.

I unfortunately had to do so as I was unloading my bike off the lift with not really enough space and it slid against my wife's car. Snapped the brake lever clean off, nothing else damaged. Of course I had to pretend that the little dent in her car was the biggest drama. :002:

Anyway I ordered ASV shorty levers. Had them on my previous bike and they're very pleasant.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:   see this post further down this thread

Wish I knew that a few month ago although I had suspected they may be the same clutch/brake perch. I went with a PUIG lever set and overall Iím happy but Iíve always gone for the ASVís as well.

I checked part numbers on partzilla/Kawasaki diagrams and there the same part number, from the horse's mouth. I'll report back once the mail man shows up and I install it . Clutch levers are a few weeks out, so I'll have a mixed setup for a while.

Sorry for the confusion folks, I must have screwed something up when checking diagrams, because the ASV lever for the Z900 DOES NOT FIT on the Z900RS!!

For the ASV lever in particular, there are 2 issues:
1) The hole the plunger thing that connects to the master cylinder goes into is not on the ASV lever for the regular Z900.
2) The tab that engages the brake light switch is too short.

I'll ask Matt if he can rename the topic, as to avoid any confusion for others.

I didn't re-check, good question!

Just looked and it appears to be the same part number on the pictures, but for the RS the full number is 13236-0139, and for the regular z900 it's 13236-0140. They look different too in areas. Same thickness and pivot pin size, etc, but z900 switch sits higher it seems.

Actually they seem quite different  :038:

13236-0139 - for RS

13236-0140 - for Z900

That's what I figured out. :002: I went by the part number in the diagrams (13236) and got excited and now I've got the wrong lever at home. :002:
