Tyre life
on: August 12, 2019, 05:28:16 PM
My first rear tyre is dead after 5000km, the front one would probably last another 1000km, but I always have them changed together. My profile is 5% city, 5% motorway and 90% country roads.
How long did your first set of tyres last?
best regards

At 4,000 miles my rear is really starting to square off so I figure another 1,000 and it will be replaced.  If the front looks fine I’ll change the rear to my preferred brand, Michelin Pilot Road, 2,3,4 or 5.  They’re all really good.  I’ve never had an issue with changing one at a time as they’re all radial tyres.

I´m just back from a 1400 km tour through the black forest.

Of course my buddies and I had a discussion about tires... :082:

I realized that my rear tire is done now at 5200 km.

So tomorrow I will order the new Pirelli Angel GT 2   :046:

They are good. I have the PR 3 on my Street Triple.  I don’t know how many miles on them, since they came with the used bike, but they look still brand new after 3.2K miles by me, with 2 full truck days. And I know the previous owner did track days too, unknown if he did on this set.  I can’t tell any wear on them. For even very aggressive street use, they are the best out there.

However, on a bike I track, I would go with a much less lasting tire, next time comes.  They are great, but I did feel them lose traction, front and back, a couple times at the track last time. I’m not blaming the tire. I just want a softer semi-track compound for the track, that will probably last 3k total, lol.  For street and moderate track use, I admire them.  It is a marvel a tire with such good grip will also last over 8k miles, from what I have seen.

Yeah for overall street use they’re great.  For the track the Power Pure or the Pilot Power’s are quite sticky.  My Hayabusa is very hard on a rear and the multi compound tires are best.

I changed my rear at 4200 miles as it was getting squared off.  Front still had plenty of miles but changed it anyway since I wanted to install angled tire valves.  I went with the PR5s and love them

Im @ 3200 or so. Rear is squared off. Been more freeway riding than back roads with this bike.  All good miles none the less.
