How's the Café seat for the pillion?
« on: May 31, 2019, 08:20:50 AM »
Hi there, I'm still waiting for my Café to be delivered, but still have an open window for some OEM extras, and since I'll be taking my girl for some trips I'm wondering if the seat is going to be any good for her butt, or if I better ask for a different seat.
Btw, grab bar is on the list already.

Thanks

I recently sold my tall seat to a member here with a cafe. He said he wanted it for when his wife rides as she didn't like the back slope on the cafe seat.

That's a bummer.. I really like the looks of it, and didn't loved the feeling of sitting over the bike on the normal RS, guess the lower one will have to work..

Get both one for when you ride solo one for two up :)

The seat was 'OK' for my wife. Her sharply bent knees were the painful issue. She has longer legs.

Looks a bit cramped.  I don't consider the RS (Cafe or Standard RS) a great bike for 2 up riding.     I am sure it's fine for short little trips down to your favorite watering hole but I seriously doubt that anyone could be comfortable on the back of these bikes for very long regardless if you use the  Cafe Seat or the Standard RS Seat or the Reduced Reach Seat (which is the same for the RS and the CAFE.).
I don't usually have a big smile on my face, but when I do I probably am riding my bike.

I have ordered the reduced reach seat for my Cafe. For a couple of reasons.

1) For a more comfortable surface for the wife, on admittedly lunch only type rides. She will putt around town with me.
2) For a better, more level surface for a tail bag. The Cafe seat does not lend itself well for holding a tail bag in place.
Very soon I aim to regional tour on my Cafe (credit card/motel travel).
3) I hope the lowered cockpit might lend itself well for strafing the curves.
4) To me (and I'm not positive about this), the Cafe seat hump interrupts the tank to tail lines on the bike.
You look at many superbikes builds and most have a standard seat with a lowered rider position. A visual thing.
5) While touring with a tail bag, I can beat on (or scuff) the reduced reach seat while the original seat stays at home in mint condition. I'm weird like that.

Just a detail change for a bike I am truly enjoying, both while riding, and visually.

If you want to sell your standard Cafe Seat let me know.   I like the looks and I don't have a passenger.
