Immobilizer active blinking lamp
« on: April 17, 2019, 04:21:20 PM »
The red indicator at the top of the instrument cluster that is supposed to blink when the ignition is off does not work on my bike. I read in the manual that through a series of switch presses it can be shut off, and I assume that the previous owner of my bike did that. I would like it to be reset to the ON state. The manual says that it defaults to ON if the battery is disconnected, but that didn't work for me. I have also tried the switch press sequence for OFF again  hoping that it would turn it back on but no joy. Anybody know how to get it to blink again?

Pap Cap,

The owner manual says that “When the battery voltage is low (below 12 V), the red warning
indicator/immobilizer indicator automatically stops blinking to prevent excessive battery discharge“.

Did you check that?

Also, I looked for the procedure to turn it on again and didn’t find anything in the manual. I’m assuming that to turn it on again one should do the exactly same procedure to turn it off?

Here is what I found on the manual:

1: The red warning indicator/immobilizer indicator blinking mode can be set to either on or off.
○To stop the red warning indicator/immobilizer indicator blinking, display the odometer in the multifunction display and turn the ignition switch off while pushing the lower button within 2 seconds.
○When the battery is disconnected, red warning indicator/immobilizer indicator defaults to blinking mode.
○When the battery voltage is low (below 12 V), the red warning indicator/immobilizer indicator automatically stops blinking to prevent excessive battery discharge

I think the immobilizer may be an option that your bike does not have or it may be an option that is not on American market bikes.   You might check with a Kawi dealer or wait for an answer here .
As far as I know my bike does not have this function.

This is correct. I researched it last year.

It should stop you starting the bike without the key, even if you manage to bypass the ignition switch.

An article here: https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/security/dont-rely-on-your-oem-immobiliser

The bypass kits are easily and cheaply bought on ebay etc  :003:
