Brake Light Modulator Install
« on: March 12, 2019, 02:17:43 AM »
I'm in the planning stages of an install on my 2018 RS and looking for guidance from anyone who has done it on this bike.

In particular:

1.  Where did you locate it?  I assume in the tail section but never hurts to ask
2.  Do you have a pictures or diagrams of the wires you can share to simplify identification!

Once I settle on the specific modulator I choose I'll add it to the thread.

In the meantime, thanks in advance for your assistance.

The flasher is not simple to reach, but photos on page 11 of this thread (with lots of discussion/advice/details on the many other pages):

*** I did it. And, if I can do it, anyone can.

This is also useful if you're interested in certain parts:

Thanks for the links...I'll read in more detail tomorrow.

In all likelihood I'll be going with the BackOFF XP Brake Light Modulator from Signal Dynamics together with the Smart Brake Module which activates the brake light when engine braking.  I know the BackOFF just splices into the wire going to the brake light and I think the SBM also taps into the wires connected to the brake light.

It's those wires leading to the brake light that I most need to identify and distinguish from all the other wires in there so I can be sure I'm working with the right ones.

From the instructions of the two products I'm considering I'll need to properly identify the:

1.  Brake light wire
2.  Ground wire
3.  Tail light wire

Any help (diagrams, pics, videos, etc.) identifying these wires on the 2018 RS sold in the US is welcome.

Thanks!

Per page 16-56 in the manual, ground is black/yellow; brake/tail is brown/yellow; and license plate light is brown/yellow. I can look at mine and confirm in the next day or two. If you join z900rs UK group on FB, there is a downloadable manual in the group's "files" section (link to files should be on the group's about page).

Here's a screen cap of that page, and below that a close up of items 5, 6, and 7 (the ground) w/ codes BK/Y and BR/Y for each.

TST Industries makes a plug and play version

They don't have our bikes listed, but it is likely the same connector is used as on other Kawasaki models

I'm going to send them an email about fitment, pricing, and availability

who can post up some good pictures of the electrical connector?

TST does not have access to an RS so do not know which style connector is used

I'll forward the pictures to them

Thanks

I have the Vizi-tec SupaBrake III modulator which I bought for my Kawasaki Vulcan S.  It is plug and play and I was hoping the Z900RS has the same connectors as the Vulcan S but I am not sure.   I love the Vizi-tec.  Solid State, programmable and the size of a quarter.  It's an amazing piece of tech and I hope I can get it to work on the Z.
